This air plant is a hybrid of Tillandsia araujei and Tillandsia stricta. The plant has bright, bronze green leaves that are similar in color, but slightly longer than T.araujei. This air plant grows to be very large, and the leaves branch out wide, typical of T.stricta.
Tillandsia araujei x stricta inherits the caulescent property of it’s parent, and thus grows along a stem. During bloom it produces a magnificent, pink spike with lavender-colored flowers.
Tillandsia Araujei x Stricta is a hybrid cultivar of air plant created by cross-breeding two other popular air plants together. It has the stem, color and shape of T.araujei, but inherits the leave shapes and flowers of T.stricta.
This air plant is well-suited for drier South African conditions, and should be grown horizontally or upside down to avoid water collecting in the leaves.
We have an extensive collection of Tillandsias. They are an incredible epiphyte that grows naturally in Central and South America. They are simply magical and do well as a standalone piece or displayed in a terrarium or mount. These are some of our favorites:
